Over the summer, alongside Manchester City Council, the Department for Education and Manchester Active, we were part of the #HAF2021 scheme to provide summer activities for young people in the Burnage/Ladybarn area.
It was a great success, with 73 children attending the scheme over 15 days, with 432 engagements. There was food, fun and, well, even more fun if we’re honest!
Our partners Ladybarn Community Hub hosted our summer play-scheme, and each day every child participated in fun and engaging activities including music, team games, sports, food education and arts and crafts.
We used outdoor parks to ensure each child had plenty of opportunity to engage in outdoor activities. Each day every child was provided with a hot meal, prepared by one of our local partners Manchester Mind.
“It was great to see my child enjoying the sessions and getting them away from their Xbox, phone and television”
“My child loved attending and looked forward to each day”
All the staff really enjoyed the playscheme as well and realised how much they missed delivering these sessions. We will be delivering this again during the Christmas holiday and really look forward to this. The playscheme team feel it will be an amazing finish to what has been a tough year.
The children also told us:
“I really enjoyed spending time with my friends and going to the park”
“I had lots of fun, I loved dancing and the staff taught me something new”
