Recently we have just completed working with a young person (for privacy reasons we’ll refer to them as A) who was referred to us by a local primary school.
Due to the pandemic and their needs, A had been out of school for over a year. We were approached to see if we could support them on a weekly basis in an outdoor setting away from the school.
Over the following few weeks, we were gradually able to build a trusting relationship with A and encourage them to develop their social skills, ready for when a place in a special school become available.
“Thank you for being A’s support whilst they weren’t at school… You have been so patient and respectful of their needs and those of the family.– Mum
You have made them feel very comfortable and relaxed in a short space of time. This is a good testament to the quality of work that N-Gage delivers.
A has started to trust people again and make friends and that’s down to the work that N-Gage have done.”
The school could see the impact on what we were doing in the park and approached us once again to ask if we could increase our sessions with him, this time using indoor activities at our youth centre. We quickly increased our sessions and provided more activities and a consistency that they needed to develop.
During this time a place became available at a school that would meet their needs and we were able to support A with the transition into the school. We continued to work with A as they settled into their new school. They quickly made friends and their phased timetable has now evolved into them attending full time.
It was a pleasure to watch A develop from being someone who has over the last 6 months grown in confidence and learnt to trust people again and make new friends.
