Could you volunteer?

Do you have a few hours to spare to help N-Gage? Could you help staff the Shift detached youth work that we do on Friday nights? Or would you rather help out in the office? Or help set up fundraising events?  There are certain times through the N-Gage year where there are lots of things going on all at once, and a bit of extra help would be very gratefully received! To join our database of volunteers please email Rachel on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it with your details. Thank you.

Heather Thorpe

heather_t.jpg Heather helps out half a day a week (very part time) filling in Grant applications. She loves the contact with N-Gage, and watching the drive and commitment of Christie and the team he has built around him, and watching N-Gage flourish and grow. She works as a Phoenix Trader, selling cards and as an Antenatal Teacher with the NCT running local classes in Styal Prison. She lives with her husband and 4 children aged from 25 to 10 in Heaton Moor and worships at Ivy Manchester in Didsbury.

Rodger Spurling

Rodger Spurling Rodger has spent the last ten years working in the Voluntary Sector which included setting up a transport scheme for elderly residents in Cambridge and lately managing the Red Cross Office in Manchester. Since moving back ‘up North' Rodger became involved with N-Gage firstly as a Trustee and then following early retirement in 2009 took on the role of Development Co-ordinator. Rodger is married with four children, one of them being Christie the Project's Director, hence the involvement, for which he is really excited and proud to be part of the projects development.

Joel King

joel_king.jpg Joel has lived in Manchester most of his life and has recently started helping N-Gage with the accounts and book-keeping. He has known Christie from a young age, attending youth clubs which Christie was involved in leading. This connection lead Joel to offer his help to N-Gage having experienced first-hand Christie's talent for youth work. Joel is a Detainee Custody Officer working at Manchester airport, he works various times of the day and night in an Immigration and Asylum holding centre. Outside of work Joel enjoys playing sports including football and squash. He also enjoys going for a pint or two and would never say no to a game of darts!

Rachel Gaunt

rachel_gaunt.jpgRachel Gaunt is Executive Assistant to the Director, and as such is Christie's right hand woman!  Working in the office two and a half days a week, Rachel is really pleased that her organisational skills are being put to such good use.  Having trained as a journalist, Rachel has worked in TV production for the last 4 years, but has taken a change of direction by setting up her own cake company - Reflect Cakes and coming to work with N-Gage.  It is really exciting for her to be able to to help Christie and N-Gage in their work, and she is looking forward to seeing some of the great hopes to move it forward come to fruition.
