N-GAGE IS AN INNOVATIVE RAPIDLY EXPANDING CHARITY SEEKING TO ENABLE YOUNG PEOPLE TO REACH THEIR FULL POTENTIAL, ATTAIN FULL BENEFIT FROM EDUCATION, TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR BEHAVIOUR AND DEVELOP POSITIVE CITIZENSHIP
We aim to achieve this in 3 key ways:
STEP UP: We work with groups of young people in primary and secondary schools who are at risk of permanent exclusion, running a purpose written program called Step Up. We look at a wide variety of issues that affect young people today including Citizenship, Law and Order, Racism, Drugs and Prison. We also run creative workshops such as street dance, dj-ing and percussion.
TRANSFORM: To enable young people to put something positive back into the community we run community action projects in tandem with the schools work that we do to reinforce what is taught in the classroom.
SHIFT: We also work closely with the local police running programmes of detached youth work on the streets and in the local parks.

After the recent award of £1000 from National Offender Management we have delivered the prison lesson to approx 125 pupils over the last few weeks. We have had really positive feedback from both pupils and staff. We have researched the possible impact these lessons could have. If 120 pupils were jailed for a year it would cost £5.64 million. (£47.000 per person per year). If the lessons we delivered had a 10% success rate in preventing offending resulting in custody we would have saved the government £564.000. I really hope the lessons have hit home with all who were in them.

We work with groups of young people in primary and secondary schools who are at risk of permanent exclusion, running a purpose written program called Step Up. We look at a wide variety of issues that affect young people today including Citizenship, Law and Order, Racism, Drugs and Prison. Our ethos is to challenge and develop the young people in such a way as to enable them to obtain maximum benefit from their education.
To enable young people to put something positive back into the community we also run community action projects in tandem with the schools work that we do to reinforce what is taught in the classroom. This aspect of our work is called Transform.
We are also involved in detached youth work and go out onto the streets and into the local park with a team of volunteers and engage with local people. This area of our work is called Shift.
